Format: Paperback|Verified Purchase

I know this amy seem excessive to some but I feel it is a must read book for everyone. With all that is going on in the world we need to have a conversation on pathways to heal and make needed changes. There is too much violence and separation today. Eric in sharing his own experience helps us look at the problems along with pathways to make changes. This is not his story it ours.

5.0 out of 5 starsIf Forest Gump were committed to creating a just world...August 26, 2017
Format: Paperback

WITNESS would deserve space in a time capsule for people struggling for a better world at the turn of the 21st Century. Eric is a kind of Forest Gump of social and cultural transformation, showing up at the hottest spots in the global crucible at pivotal moments. His courage is striking and his tenacity is breathtaking, and his writing as he chronicles these adventures is crisp and evocative. He's able to convey the most heartbreaking moments of testimony before South Africa's Truth and Reconciliation Commission with a freshness and tenderness that has you feeling you're in the room. If you are becoming dubious about whether you personally can nudge the world in the direction we all want, or could use a booster shot for your activism, read this book. Then give it to a friend who could use a lift.

5.0 out of 5 starsWhat a beautiful testament to love--the greatest CommandmentJuly 22, 2017
Format: Paperback

I met Eric at the National Employment Lawyers Annual Convention in June and bought a copy of the book. I have finally been able to open the book and read without interruption, but not without succumbing to tears from the raw emotion spilling from the pages. The powerful description of Eric's spiritual hunger and where it took him is a familiar journey. What a beautiful testament to love--the greatest Commandment.
The beatitude "Blessed are the Peacemakers" is alive in your soul Eric. As civil rights lawyers we seek justice; we can no longer ignore the call to seek peace. You are right Eric; true justice comes from peace.
Thank you for stepping out so boldly in faith and love to bring the joy of the meaning of peace.

Format: Paperback

As a retired lawyer, judge and educator, I believe that Witness is an important book for law students and lawyers. It is also a valuable resource for anyone interested in an approach to justice which focuses on our common humanity and includes the healing power of truth telling, compassion and forgiveness. Eric Sirotkin takes the reader on his own journey "from the head to the heart" with moving accounts of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's hearings in South Africa. Closer to home, he describes the Navajo Peacemaker Court, whose goal is to restore peace and harmony to the whole community. He then applies these concepts to current political challenges, including an extensive look at North Korea. Witness is a compelling story which has the potential to change the way we look at ourselves, our legal system, and our place in the world.

Format: Paperback

In this age of our 'us' vs 'them' attitude, climate change denial, and the neo-liberalist agenda, Witness offers up a "YES" vision. If you know anyone with despair over the state of our basic humanity and systems of power gift them this account of one man's fight for everyman's human rights. Sirotkin brings us inside incredible diplomatic efforts in South Africa, North Korea, Cuba, the USA, and more. His personal journey of finding ubuntu and then working this philosophy into conflict resolution and litigation is truly inspiring.

5.0 out of 5 starsHis amazing adventures in South Africa and North and South Korea ...October 12, 2017
Format: Paperback

Eric Sirotkin's book is a personal journey of courage, transformation and compassion. His amazing adventures in South Africa and North and South Korea are inspiring, disturbing and compelling. Eric's vulnerable sharing of his personal struggle and transformation from traditional lawyer who was always ready to beat the bad guys to the one who is about reconciliation, compassion and ubuntu is very moving. This is a book about the real world and is written by a man on a very human journey of authenticity, conscience, with a burning desire to change the world for the better...for peace. I highly recommend it!
