Hello. Today I want to send you a message of peace from Japan.
But first, unfortunately, we have to talk about this unspeakable war that
is going on at the moment and the political actions for and above all against it. I'm proud of each of you for being here at this peace demonstration right now. I am proud of every European who is speaking out against this war at the moment and I am proud of every European who says that we must end this war as soon as possible.

At the moment it's easy to be for peace and for arms deliveries at the same time. You have to imagine we are living in a moment, at a point in time, when the Secretary General of NATO literally says we have to deliver weapons in order to achieve peace. "Weapons are indeed the way to peace," said Mr. Jens Stoltenberg literally in January, and that is an absolute absurdity.

Here we are perverting the idea of peace into that of war. The overall logic of all those who are now pro-armament, pro-continuation of the war is the logic of "we are right, the other is wrong and that is why we are allowed to fight". And not just us. We're not fighting here in Central Europe. We're quiet there. We'll just send weapons and then let Ukraine fight this war. And the whole framing of this war, which is going on as a defense of democracy and a necessity in itself, that we are now supporting the victim of an attack, is once again the way of those who support war by force of arms, that is "righ" by force of arms, to oppose peace movements like ours, and
then denigrate people like Sahra Wagenknecht, like Alice Schwarzer, as either stupid, naive, or even Putin-friendly and Russia-friendly. And this accusation of being friendly to Russia, we must not accept this just like that.

Everyone, myself included, unequivocally condemn this war of aggression. The war shouldn't have happened. But this war could have been prevented. Anyone with even a little historical knowledge who can think beyond February 24, 2022, will remember that this war has been going on for eight years.
And for eight years people have tried, tried to end this war. For eight years now, Russia has been trying somehow to restore peace there. The Minsk
Agreements were made to bring about this peace, and unfortunately we now know from Mrs. Merkel and Mr. Holland that the Minsk Peace Agreements
were never meant seriously by the western side, that the idea was always that we want this war.

(Maybe) we didn't want war, but we wanted to arm Ukraine, and that they actually wanted to turn Ukraine into a bulwark against Russia. That was first said by Mr. Putin, and then the Western side commented, "No, that's all war propaganda,
we never wanted that," and now it comes out, no, no, that was actually the idea. We are caught in a European war spiral in which, as has been the case for hundreds of years, great powers are once again confronting each other and once again each side weighs in with absolute rights and where once again the trigger is a relatively small province, the Donbass and the Crimea, are —strategically extremely important but small — and they are triggers for a major war.

And this war could get much worse. This war could become nuclear. And anyone who says you don't have to worry about this, "that's not a big problem", those people don't understand the seriousness of the situation. We are at a worse point than in 1962 during the Cuban Missile Crisis when actually the Soviet Union and the US nearly slid into a nuclear war. Because at that time this missile crisis became the trigger for a first wave of de-escalation. At that time, those responsible, our politicians, realized how dangerous this situation was and that this must de-escalate.

And where are we today? We are at a point where, in the West at least, they say "you can't give in at all, you can't negotiate, you have to keep pushing" "you have to deliver more weapons, and only a final victory on the right side is a good victory." It is absurd, ladies and gentlemen, and we must oppose this war mentality. We must not defend Mr. Putin's war of aggression, nor must we believe that we are naïve and that we who are demanding negotiations and an end to the arms supply are being portrayed as stupid.

Because we oppose the logic of war and this constant escalation. Because in
every war, every war, both sides feel that they are right. That's the point about war, otherwise you don't go to war. If you feel "oh maybe I'm on the bad side,
maybe I'm doing this wrong" then you don't go to war. You have to remind yourself of that; Russians feel they have the right to go to war, Ukrainians feel they have the right to go to war, and Europeans feel they have the right to support Ukrainians. Everyone feels justified.

Especially we neutral states — I am Swiss, most of you are Austrians — we must remind ourselves that we do not participate in this stupidity. That is the point of neutrality. At the moment we don't know where right and wrong ultimately
will land. Can you still remember the Iraq war and then the "weapons of mass destruction" that Sadam allegedly had? Well, there were none. Tough luck. Turns out, the Americans were the warmongers and started this war and killed a million Iraqis.

And everyone who supported them, every European country that supported these people, was complicit. Ladies and gentlemen, we neutral countries say from the start that we won't become guilty because we do not know where this whole conflagration will end up. That's why we stay out. I mourn the suffering of everyone - I mourn the suffering of both sides. I lament the suffering on the side of the Ukrainians, I lament the suffering on the side of the Russians, because the Russians are also suffering at the moment and many Russians are dying, many Ukrainians are dying, many civilians are dying, many soldiers are dying;
young men 19, 20, 21 years old. Sons and daughters, too, who are dying in this war at the moment. And we lament it, I lament it. But I won't make myself guilty by trying to support either side. Neutrality doesn't mean being passive, it doesn't mean that we just absolve ourselves of everything. It means that we explicitly don't participate, because that's stupid.

And this war can be ended through diplomacy. We know that. Diplomacy took place at the beginning of the war,
anyone who says Putin does not want to talk has not understood how often readiness to talk has been shown here and that this people have actually been trying to get out of this crisis through talks for 8 years . During 8 years. Unfortunately we are back in the 19th century where war is means to further political endeavors and that is terrible.

But well, let's go talk, let's go talk to those who throw bombs on others. Because the Americans are doing the same thing and NATO did the same thing in Serbia. NATO bombed Serbia in 1999 to bring about political change in Belgrade and it worked! The political change came. Just, well, what did Russia learn from this?

Okay, obviously the West isn't all that serious when it comes to themselves, with this "never make war again" thing. Well, we as a peace movement oppose this logic and say we don't participate and we don't bomb anyone and we don't give anyone weapons to attack other people.
Self-defense is for yourself and not for others. And I hope that's how we
get back to a moment where we're better again. Ladies and gentlemen, thank you.
