[광주·전남 위클리오늘=정호영 기자] An international academic conference will be held in Jindo to illuminate Mount Waedok in Jindo, where the dead in the Myeongnyang Battle of the Imjin War, and the Gwi Tomb in Kyoto, Japan, and to comfort the victims and pray for reconciliation and peace between the two countries.

Jeollanam-do announced that it will hold the ‘Korea-Japan International Conference’ and ‘The Waedoksan Memorial Festival’ at the Jindo County Office and Waedeoksan Mountain for two days from the 23rd under the supervision of the Jindo Cultural Center with the participation of officials from Korea and Japan, including former Japanese Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama.

In this academic conference, which is promoted as one of the ‘city and county historical and cultural resource discovery and education projects’ supported by Jeollanam-do, an international academic conference was held to illuminate Mt. Waedeok, where the Japanese soldiers who died during the Battle of Myeongnyang were buried, and the grave tombs in Kyoto, Japan. did.

By doing so, we share our understanding of history between Korea and Japan and comfort the victims of painful history.

On the first day, the 24th, an international academic conference held under the theme of ‘One War, Two Graves’ at the Jindo County Office started with a keynote presentation by Kyungsoo Kyung-soo, emeritus professor at Seoul National University, followed by a keynote presentation by Abito Ito, professor emeritus of Tokyo University, Hae-jun Lee, emeritus professor at Gongju University, and Amagi Amagi. Following the presentations by Naoto Kyoto World Peace Association President and Kim Moon-sil, Professor Emeritus of Busan University of Foreign Studies, Im Kyung-taek, Professor of Cultural Anthropology at Chonbuk National University, will conduct a comprehensive discussion as the chair.

After the discussion, an MOU is signed between the director of the Jindo Cultural Center and the representatives of the Kyoto World Peace Association to agree on joint promotion of the ‘Kyoto Tomb Peace Festival for the People of Waedeok Mountain’.

This is to promote the Korea-Japan peace exchange project and to develop it into a global peace movement.

On the 25th, a memorial service will be held at Mt. Waedok, Gogun-myeon, Jindo.
