이 글은 고유환, “북한연구 현황과 과제: 정치,” 『북한연구 현황과 과제』, 서울대학교 통일평화연구원 전문가토론회 (2019. 2. 12), pp. 19~27을 대폭 수정·보완한 것이다. 이 논문은 2017년 동국대학교 연구년 지원에 의하여 이루어졌다.
Abstract
남북분단에 따른 ‘시대의 아들’로 태어난 북한학이 세대를 거듭하면서 이데올로기적 존재구속성을 벗어나 객관적 학문으로 자리 잡았다. ‘있는 그대로의 북한’을 제대로 이해하기 위해서는 이데올로기적 편견과 희망적 사고를 극복해야 한다. 분단 이후 냉전이 진행되면서 북한은 연구의 대상이라기보다 적대와 타도의 대상이었다. 1970년대 초 미·중 데탕트와 1972년 7·4 남북공동성명 채택을 계기로 북한연구에 대한 관심이 높아졌다. 1980년대 말 북한에 대한 ‘내재적 연구방법’이 소개되면서 북한연구의 새로운 흐름이 형성되기도 했다. 사회주의권 붕괴 이후 북한연구에서 내재적 접근, 일상생활연구방법, 행위자-네트워크 이론 등을 적용하면서 양적·질적으로 비약적인 발전이 이뤄지고 있다. 지금의 북한연구는 어떤 특정한 연구방법이나 흐름으로 정리하기 쉽지 않을 정도로 다원화되었다. 이 글에서는 북한연구의 흐름과 쟁점을 주요 세대별로 개관해 보고 주로 북한정치 분야 연구 동향과 논쟁을 중심으로 살펴보고자 한다.
This article aims to review on North Korean Studies after the division of South and North Korea. Nowadays North Korean studies is introducing various research methodologies. North Korean studies has been expanded and intensified qualitatively and quantitatively. In order to develop a North Korean studies we should overcome ideological prejudices and wishful thinking. We should also adopt various methodologies in the North Korean studies. In this article, I would like to overview North Korean research trends and issues by the classification of North Korean research generations. This article is focusing on research trends and issues in the political field of North Korean studies.
