Dr. Emma Leslie

Emma Leslie although Australian has spent the last 22 years living and work in Cambodia and recently became a Cambodian citizen. She is the founder-director of the Centre for Peace and Conflict Studies supporting peace processes across the Asia region.
Since 1993 she has been committed to the field of conflict transformation undertaking a range of initiatives in weapons reduction, landmine related disputes, community-based peace building, interfaith dialogue and civil society engagements for peace. She led the regional peacebuilding network Action Asia from its inception in 1998 for over a decade, and developed the MA and Ph.D. programs in Applied Conflict Transformation Studies together with Pannasastra University of Cambodia.
For the past eight years, she has served the Philippine Government – Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) as a member of the International Contact Group (ICG) which supported the talks process in Kuala Lumpur, and in 2012 -2014 was a frequent international observer to the Myanmar peace talks particularly with the Karen National Union and the All Burma Students Democratic Front (ABSDF). Emma teaches mediation and dialogue regularly courses at the Folke Bernadotte Academy in Sweden and for the UN Department of Political Affairs.
She holds an MA in International Development, an honorary Ph.D. in Education, holds an Order of Australia and was one of 1000 women nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2005. Emma is the proud stepmother to three children together with her husband Ngarm, and an obsessive grandmother to her grandson.

EMMA LESLIE
Dr Emma Leslie, an Australian–Cambodian, is the co-founder of the regional peacebuilding network Action Asia, the Centre for Peace and Conflict Studies, postgraduate programs in Applied Conflict Transformation Studies (ACTS), and the Cambodia Peace Museum. She has supported peace processes throughout the Asia region since 1993, particularly as a member of the International Contact Group (ICG) which supported the Government of the Philippines and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF). She was an international observer of various Myanmar talks and facilitated joint sessions of the Joint Monitoring Committee of the Philippines Government and National Democratic Front. She holds a MA in International Development, an honorary doctorate in International Education and the Order of Australia.
Emma Leslie is a member of Women Mediators across the Commonwealth (WMC), a network hosted by Conciliation Resources which connects women with a broad range of mediation knowledge and experience.
