you want to make it okay but then just
0:02
admit I'm out of the world distinct from
0:04
the world not yes totally distinct if
0:06
you really want to play that game the
0:09
Palestinians have more of a right to
0:11
claim to be descendants of the
0:13
population from 2,000 years ago than I
0:16
do my ancestors probably come from the
0:18
Caucasus and their ancestors come from
0:21
Palestine the Canan were correct about
0:23
this so you don't want to get into that
0:25
game uh biblical rights have no status
0:29
now let's turn turn to legality and
0:32
occupation there is 100% agreement among
0:36
all in relevant International
0:38
institutions not just the United Nations
0:41
security Council including the United
0:43
States and unanimous declarations but
0:45
the international court of justice the
0:47
world Court uh the Red Cross which
0:51
administers the Geneva conventions
0:53
Israel's own top legal authorities all
0:57
agree that the Jewish settlements in the
1:00
West Bank are in violation of
1:02
international law 100% agreement Israel
1:05
doesn't agree fine Israeli Jews want to
1:08
live in some little bubble of their own
1:11
they're entitled to do so but you can't
1:13
Overlook the fact that the entire that
1:15
every relevant International institution
1:18
disagrees on the question of legality
1:21
same with occupation every relevant
1:24
International institution recognizes
1:27
that Israel is occupying not only the
1:29
West bank but that it's also the
1:32
occupying Authority in Gaza so as far as
1:35
terms go the correct terms are greater
1:38
Israel Israel's illegal expansion into
1:41
the West Bank it's hundreds of thousands
1:43
of settlers there that's all part of a
1:46
greater Israel that Israel intends to
1:48
integrate within Israel proper and is
1:51
developing the infrastructure and the
1:53
programs to do so this is the 35th year
1:57
of a harsh brutal and vicious occupation
2:01
supported unilaterally by the United
2:02
States constant Terror and atrocities uh
2:06
the suppose Palestinians say well we're
2:08
under terrorist attack for 35 years
2:11
therefore we have a right to carry out
2:12
suicide bombs which is what they say do
2:14
you accept
2:15
this does anybody accept it nobody
2:18
accepts it all right then how come
2:19
everyone accepts the Israeli claim to be
2:21
doing it which is much weaker claim
2:23
because after all there's no symmetry in
2:25
the situation they are the military
2:28
occupiers Palestine isn't occupying
2:30
Israel and this isn't just started now
2:32
it's G on years ago I mean so does that
2:35
in your mind justify do not of course
2:38
not it doesn't in anybody's mind
2:40
invalidates both
2:42
sides those who defend suicide bombing
2:46
and they are very few uh have not don't
2:48
have a leg to stand on those who defend
2:51
the Israeli atrocities including the US
2:54
government uh most intellectual opinion
2:57
uh good bit of the West generally yeah
3:00
they don't have a leg to stand on either
3:02
and and they have a much weaker position
3:04
for 35 years uh there has been a harsh
3:08
brutal miserable o military occupation
3:12
uh there has not been a political
3:13
settlement the reason why there has not
3:16
been a political settlement is that the
3:17
United States unilaterally has blocked
3:21
it for 25 years is it supported by the
3:24
entire world including the majority of
3:26
the American people the answer to that
3:28
question is yes
3:30
there is a political settlement that has
3:32
been supported by virtually the entire
3:34
world including the Arab states the PLO
3:37
Europe Eastern Europe Canada didn't
3:40
Barack put that on the table no he did
3:42
not he did not what this it is also
3:44
supported by the majority of the
3:46
American people it has just been
3:48
reiterated by Saudi Arabia the US has
3:51
unilaterally blocked it for 25 years
3:55
what Barack put on the table uh the the
3:58
population doesn't know this because
4:00
people like the Western Med the media in
4:02
Canada and the United States don't tell
4:04
them like you can check and see how
4:07
often you uh you for example or others
4:10
have reported what I just said I don't
4:12
don't bother checking the answer is zero
4:14
uh the Barack proposal in Camp David in
4:18
uh uh the Barack Clinton proposal in the
4:21
united I didn't check the Canadian media
4:24
in the United States you cannot find a
4:27
map which is the most important thing of
4:29
course
4:30
check in Canada and see if you can find
4:31
a map you go to Israel you can find a
4:33
map you go to scholarly sources you can
4:35
find a map here's where you find when
4:36
you look at a map you find that this
4:39
generous magnanimous proposal uh
4:43
guaranteed provided uh uh Israel with a
4:46
Salient east of Jerusalem uh including
4:50
the city of maadim which was established
4:53
primarily by the labor government in
4:54
Clinton in order to bisect the West Bank
4:57
that San goes almost to Jered
5:00
breaks the West Bank into two cantons
5:03
then there's a second sent to the north
5:06
going to the Israeli settlement of Ariel
5:09
which bisects the northern part into two
5:11
cantons so we've got three cantons in
5:13
the West Bank virtually separated all
5:16
three of them are separated from a small
5:19
area of East Jerusalem which is the
5:21
center of Palestinian commercial uh uh
5:24
and cultural life and of communication
5:27
so you got four canons all SEP seated
5:29
from the west from Gaza so that's five
5:32
cantons all surrounded by uh Israeli
5:35
settlements infrastructure development
5:38
and so on uh which also incidentally
5:40
guarantee Israel control of the Water
5:42
Resources the reason last comment this
5:44
does not rise to the level of South
5:47
Africa 40 years ago when South Africa
5:50
established the Bantu stands that's the
5:52
generous magnanimous offer and there's a
5:55
good reason why Maps weren't shown
5:57
because as soon as you look at the map
5:58
you see it all right right however
6:00
that's the characterization of it but
6:02
let me just
6:03
say Arafat didn't even bother putting a
6:07
counter proposal on the table that's not
6:09
true they negotiated at taba afterwards
6:12
true but I guess my question is if they
6:15
don't continue to negotiate that's
6:17
totally false and and no part not only
6:19
is it false but not a single participant
6:22
in the meetings says it that's a media
6:25
fabrication thatat didn't put a proposal
6:28
they had a proposal proposed the
6:30
international consensus uh which has
6:33
been accepted by the entire world the
6:36
Arab states the P the majority of the
6:38
American sorry they proposed a
6:41
settlement which is in accord with an
6:43
overwhelming International consensus
6:45
question if and blocked by the United
6:46
States the problem that people look at
6:48
now the Middle East is they say it's
6:50
spun out of control how do you get back
6:53
to First way we get get first way we get
6:56
back is by trying the experiment of
6:59
minimal honesty okay let's try that
7:01
experiment if we try the experiment of
7:03
minimal honesty we look at our own
7:06
position and we discover what I just
7:08
described that for 25 years the United
7:11
States has blocked the political
7:13
settlement which is supported by the
7:15
majority of the American population and
7:17
by the entire world except for Israel
7:19
virtually I mean there's some marginal
7:21
exceptions uh so for first thing we do
7:23
is accept the honesty to look at that we
7:26
take a look at Camp David uh and we see
7:28
yeah it was the same uh the United
7:30
States was still Pro propos demanding a
7:34
bantuan style settlement and rejecting
7:37
the overwhelming International consensus
7:40
and the position of the American people
7:42
we then discover that the United States
7:44
immediately moved to enhance Terror in
7:47
the region so let's continue uh on
7:50
September
7:51
29th uh ahud Barack uh put a massive
7:55
military presence outside the alaka
7:58
mosque uh very provocative when people
8:01
came out of the mosque uh young people
8:04
started throwing stones the Israeli
8:06
armies started shooting half a dozen
8:08
people were killed and escalated the
8:10
next couple of days uh there was no
8:12
Palestinian fire at this time and it's
8:14
all unoccupied territories in the next
8:17
couple of days uh Israel used Us
8:20
helicopters Israel produces no
8:22
helicopters use Us helicopters to attack
8:26
civilian complexes killing about a dozen
8:29
people and wounding several dozen uh
8:32
Clinton reacted to that on October 3rd
8:35
by making the biggest deal in a decade
8:38
to send Israel new military helicopters
8:41
which had just been used for the purpose
8:43
I described and of course we continue to
8:45
be uh the US press cooperated with that
8:49
by refusing to publish the story to this
8:51
day they have not published the fact uh
8:54
it continued uh when Bush came in one of
8:57
his first acts was to send Israel a new
9:00
shipment of the most advanced military
9:03
helicopters in the Arsenal that
9:05
continues right up to a couple of weeks
9:06
ago with new shipments you take a look
9:09
at the reports from say Janine by
9:11
British correspondents like Peter
9:13
Bowmont and the London Observer he says
9:15
the worst atrocity there was the uh
9:18
Apache helicopters buzzing around uh
9:21
destroying and demolishing everything
9:23
yeah this is enhancing Terror uh and we
9:25
may easily continue uh we can take also
9:29
let me continue on December 15th 14th uh
9:33
the security Council tried to pass a
9:36
resolution calling for what everyone
9:39
recognizes to be the obvious means for
9:41
reducing Terror namely sending
9:43
International monitors that's a way of
9:45
reducing Terror this happened to be in
9:47
the middle of a quiet period which
9:49
lasted for about 3 weeks uh the US
9:52
vetoed it uh 10 days before that there
9:55
was a meeting at Geneva of the high
9:58
Contracting party parties of the Fourth
10:00
Geneva Convention uh which has
10:02
unanimously held for 35 years that it
10:06
applies to Israel uh it the meeting uh
10:10
condemned the Israeli settlements as
10:12
illegal condemned a list of atrocities
10:15
uh willful destruction of property
10:18
murder uh trials torture and so on and
10:21
so forth okay what happened to that
10:23
meeting I'll tell you what happened to
10:24
that meeting the US boycotted it uh
10:27
therefore the media refused to publish
10:29
it therefore no one here knows that the
10:32
United States once again enhanced Terror
10:36
uh by uh refusing to recognize the
10:39
applicability of conventions which make
10:42
virtually everything the United States
10:44
and the uh Israel are doing there a a
10:47
grave breach of the Geneva conventions
10:49
which means a war crime just a minute
10:51
these conventions were established uh in
10:55
in
10:56
1949 in order to criminalize the ATR
10:59
ities of the Nazis in occupied territory
11:02
they are customary international law the
11:05
United States is obligated as a high
11:08
Contracting party to prosecute
11:10
violations of those conventions that
11:12
means to prosecute its own leadership
11:14
for the last 25
11:27
years

I am well into my 60s and for almost forty years, Chomsky was always my best go-to voice for clarity, information and evaluation on any given substantive topic or theme.  Chomsky invented modern Linguistics (57 pages and zero applicable footnotes).  With that in mind, history and political science, for example, is rather elementary.  No other person, living or dead, has influenced me anywhere near as much as Chomsky.  I cherish what Chomsky's influence fosters, my "Tools for Intellectual Self-Defense."  A gift that defies words.

This was actually an interview on Canadian TV some 25 or 30 years ago. I remember also that the phone calls that came in for the program was enormous and in support of Chomsky. That’s an example when truth is expressed.

I wish Noam Chomsky gave some details about Arafat's counter proposal. As far as I remember, there was none ! The fact is that Palestinians do not want a Jewish state, no matter it's size.

He should be old enough to recall that the original occupation occurred in the wake of the 7-Day War, which is now known to have been a war of extermination funded in large part by the former Soviet Union.   Ironically, the Israelis won, and captured or destroyed nearly 2 Billion dollars worth of Soviet military hardware which had been supplied to the Arabs.  That meant the continuing context of the conflict was as a proxy war between the USSR and the West.   So there is a lot more to this issue than simply Israel vs Arabs, since even with the USSR gone, it's clear Putin wants to revive it, and other power players have also stepped in, such as Iran.   I am sure there is something in that equation that is affecting any political settlement.   And UN moral impatience can be bought, quite clearly.

Also, in 2005, Israel left Gaza, so it cannot be said to have been occupying it.   Gaza even elected their own government.   There was in fact a great deal of economic activity that grew between Israel and Gaza.   The contortions I have heard people go through to claim Gaza was occupied prior to Oct 7 are quite absurd.   Israel could not trust them as it was clear they were militarizing, this time with Iran's and Russia's support, so a blockade of military shipments to the best of their ability, is perfectly understandable and reasonable.   No worse than standing in line at the airport to get screened...which, btw, is due to the same Arab terrorism.

There is some legitimacy to the violations cited in the West Bank, however I have read some transfers are land purchase, and since purchase is not a forcible transfer of land, it is allowed and is perfectly legal internationally.   Which of course is why Palestinians have outlawed land sales themselves.   In fact, land sale to Jewish entities is punishable by death under Palestinian law, and yet land is still sold to Jews, a process which entails creating a variety of methods to transfer property without the sale being visible for long periods.  The reason Palestinian law has the death penalty for land sales is because it is a perfectly legal way of transferring land in a way that bypasses Article 49 of the 4th Geneva Convention, and therefore is not a violation of international law.

The title of this clip is "Why did Hamas attack Israel on 7th of October?". And we still do not get a clear answer ! The massacres of October 7 had nothing to do with the settlements. And Noam Chomsky knows it ! Therefore I believe that this interview took place before OCtober 7. The title is misleading.

In the movie Manufacturing Consent, the anchor for 'Nightline' was asked why they never had Chomsky on. The answer was twofold. One: because he sounds like he's from Neptune, and (2) he lacks concision. Well, he talks like he's from Neptune because our media leaves out a lot of what he brings to light, so when he brings these things up, he's expected to 'explain himself'. But that takes more time than one gets between commercial breaks. Thus, lack of concision.
It takes two seconds to repeat an oft repeated lie but hours to unravel it and get at the truth.

22 Muslim Arab League states rule 99.98% of land in M.E. Non of these states are concered with " International " law. However they are exclusively Muslim that follow the Quran which states the Holy Land was assigned to the Jews. Noam never addresses the simple fact that 850,000 Arabic Jews were forced by Arab leaders to leave Arabic states post 1948. Most went to Israel and became citizens while Arabs forced from Israel became refugees for next 75 years in all Arab League states. Noam is a brilliant commentator not concerned about what surrounds Israel ie Muslim Arab states in which millions of Muslim Arabs have been killed and made refugees by Muslim Arabs. Iraq, Yemen, Syria, Libya, Lebanon yet Israel is the problem... Yeah sure.

This is misleading as it was recorded before 7.10. Would be very interesting to hear what he actually has to say about one of the most brutal recoded attacks in human history.

This sounds fake. This is AI impersonating Chomsky. The voice sounds wrong. If you watch actual contemporary videos you will hear that his voice sounds much older and he is not given to snappy sounding broad sweeping statements like in this video. NOT Chomsky!

No, it is just clips from many different talks. I've heard all of them before, they are definitely genuine.

However I think that the sources should be listed for general reference.

He was sometimes a bit more combative when he was younger during interviews or debates and a lot of these clips are from years ago.  Even recently he'll still talk like that sometimes but it's hard to notice since he talks so slow.  The more recent clip sounds like it may have been sped up to account for his older age.  Either way these are real clips.

No it's not, it's a debate interview, a relatively old one. It has nothing to do with October 7th though. I can share the link if you like. It's like one Year old

It's Chomsky, and the part of the last interview is on YouTube where there's a video as well, so shut up, this is all true and factual

Myth number One:

Israel was not attacked on October the 7th.

Israeli Occupiers were attacked on October the 7th and according to the UN the Palestinians have the right to remove any Occupiers from their lands.

By the same agreements - If Hamas attacked Tel Aviv the Israelis would have the right to remove The Palestinians from Israel.

The Israelis attacked Gaza in Palestine as they had not attacked in Tel Aviv.

The Iranians attacked Israel but the US did not allow Israel to strike back as they did ( and do ) in Gaza.

The question in all minds should be - why not?

the answer is: because the ' Real ' War would have started.

Hamas are not he biggest threat to Israel - Iran is.

Eradicating Hamas is not the solution to make Israel safe again.

From here on in Israel will never be safe again.

I would support Palestinian claims to statehood if they were limited to the West Bank and Gaza, but that's not what they want and to say so is disingenuous.

This man is so full of horse manure. I looked at the actual proposed map. Seemed pretty reasonable to me, unless your vision is skewed by anti-Western, pro-Islamism nonsense.

Maybe NATO should enforce 1967 borders, West Bank settlers out of there, then put a DMZ in place, form Palestinian state, implement a bit of secularism both sides so extremism is not encouraged anymore.
