During her 2002 IRP Fellowship Amanda Pike traveled to Cambodia where she found "Brother Number Two," the former Khmer Rouge commander, living at liberty in the country he helped destroy. From 1975 to 1979, nearly 2 million people died -- and the survivors still live side by side with the perpetrators.

The piece aired on the PBS program Frontline/WORLD in October 2002.

I found it remarkable that victims and perpetrators of the Killing Fields eventually settled down to be neighbors.  Similar to how the former Puritans and Royalists lived peacefully together after the Stuart Restoration.

Hard to find out much on what is going on with Nuon Chey and another senior ranking member who is still alive that were actually brought up on war crimes and opening statements were made in 2011 where they pleaded innocent of course. Thet Sambeth has made some great award winning docs on Nuon Chey and the Khmer Rouge. if anyone is looking for more info on this topic

I wanted to announce to the world that I forgave Pol Pot for the pain and suffering that he inflected on me and my families because I do not wish to take any hatred, any pain, any suffering, any  hunger to my next life.

I apologize if this statement make anyone upset.  Peace to the world.

How terrifying & humbling, how little of history we may know... how easily such awful atrocities are forgotten. I learned about Hitler's evil in 3rd grade, but this is the most I've heard about Pol Pot. I (& most people I know) just know the name in abstract. But it's so recent... and yet so quickly forgotten or ignored. Only the victims remain to tell their story. But what becomes of their history when they die? How soon will we forget entirely...

I was watching this film for a college class when I noticed something. First I must say I am a Deputy Sheriff and I am trained on the recognition of faces and at the 7 minute 3 second portion of this fil I paused it in awwe. I immediately rewided it to 4 minutes and 28 seconds and I could believe what I was seening. The child at the 7 minute 3 second and the tortured adult at the 4 minute and 28 second part of this film have to be related!  It will make your hair stand up!

Nuon Chea along with other fellow Khmer Rouge cadres were given life sentences in a UN-sponsored Cambodian court earlier this summer.  "Duch" who ran S-21 (Tuol Sleng) torture prison is currently serving life in prison.  This is small comeuppance compared to the atrocities committed by the Khmer Rouge and the fact that Pol Pot escaped prosecution.

So number two brother was the one that signed all the documentation for the murder of those in that prison.  Who killed all those in the killing fields?  Over two million I understand.  The masses have all reason to rebel against the ones still alive and give their ancestors justice!

Brother no 2 said that the party wanted him to lead them but it was he that put forward pol pot as leader and him second in command so as pol pot would take the ultimate blame. Neither of them seems regretful about what they did, just like every other powerful man or woman in history that committed crimes against humanity, some are still doing it today, are you listening netanyahu?

In video “The last interview with Pol Pot (English Subtitles )”, missalaneous11 says (about Pol Pot) "Classic Narcissist" - I reply
    # Wish you could read my Vietnamese comment; I too believe Pol Pot was struck with Narcissism (hope I understand the meaning of “Narcissism” correctly!). I also mention that China’s Expansionist Rulers like Mao ZeDong and Deng XiaoPing knew this and made full use of it. They thus praised Pol Pot and extolled him to the sky, with flying phrases like “Comrade, your Cambodian Revolution is Top of the World!”, “Comrade, we Chinese Revolutionaries admire your Cambodian Revolution so much, and we must learn from it!”, etc.
    # Now, except among his closed circle of Khmer-Rouge top-cadres, Pol Pot was a nobody from a small, backward country that was Cambodia, with about 7 millions people (before the MaoZedong-DengXiaoPing-ChinaRulers-directing-PolPot-executing genocide)
    # On the other hand, the likes of Mao ZeDong and Deng XiaoPing were notorious top-leaders of the most populous country in the world, that was China, with 1000 millions people.
    # Even US president Richard Nixon had to come seeking audience and help from them
    # Unknown Pol Pot from little Cambodia being praised to the sky by the notorious like Mao ZeDong and DengXiaoPing; this must have made Pol Pot feel he’s top of the world, invincible!
    # But of course, the praises to Pol Pot from the likes of Mao ZeDong and Deng XiaoPing, and China’s Expansionist Rulers, were like those of the Fox to the Crow in “The Fox and the Crow” fable; or the prodding flattery for the Frog that wants to be as big as a Cow in “The Frog and the Cow” fable.
    # After the praises and extolments came the advice, direction and orchestration by China’s Expansionist Rulers for the Pol Pot clique to “kill all enemies within”, gradually expanding to perpetrate the most heinous genocide of the Cambodian people.
    # That is the Internal Part. The aim is to wipe Cambodia clean of the Cambodian population, ready Cambodia for Deng XiaoPing’s Chinese advisers, troops and eventually settlers to flood in.
    # As for the External Part, the advice, direction and orchestration by China’s Expansionist Rulers for the Pol Pot clique are to wage war on Vietnam, and perpetrate the most barbaric atrocities on the Vietnamese civilians.
    # According to China-Rulers’ calculations, in waging war against Vietnam, Pol Pot would eventually loose for sure, and Pol Pot’s troops severely depleted.
    # Once the China-Rulers-scheming-and-directing-PolPot-executing Cambodian genocide has been successful (for China’s Expansionist Rulers), and Pol Pot’s troops have been so severely depleted and Pol Pot was on the brink of defeat in the war with Vietnam, Pol Pot would surely called out to China’s Rulers for help to prop up his Khmer Rouge regime.
    # That was when China’s Rulers would flood the empty Cambodia with their advisers, troops, and eventually colonizers, and turn Cambodia into another Xin-Jiang (East Turkestan), but without any Cambodians left.
    # That was China-Expansionist-Rulers’ vile scheming and calculations for Cambodia and Vietnam.
======================================
Dear Viewer – I’ll try to translate my comment below into English (and hopefully other languages as well, especially Khmer) later. But for now, it’s in Vietnamese.
    # Essentially, it’s the evil scheming and direction for the Pol-Pot clique by China’s Expansionist Rulers (notably Deng XiaoPing and Mao ZeDong) to wipe out the whole Cambodian people, so as to make Cambodia ready for Chinese advisers, troops and colonizers to flood in, and thus turn Cambodia into another Xin-Jiang (East Turkestan) but without any Cambodian left. According to DengXiaoPing-MaoZeDong-ChinaRulers’ calculations, this would happen once the DengXiaoPing-MaoZeDong-ChinaRulers-directing-PolPot-excecuting genocide had wiped Cambodia clean of the Cambodian people, and the ChinaRulers-instigating-PolPot-excecuting war with Vietnam had depleted Pol Pot’s troops to the point he’d have to call out publicly to China’s Rulers for sending troops (and advisers, workers, etc.) in for help to keep his regime alive.

budhist is a principal of living in harmony with all life and the void. kmeru, will emerg once more if people forget their history. as for christianity and budhist there is no different. all are from the same tree. when you look budha you will see jesus and vice versa. if four person with different faith look at budha the christian will see budha as jesus, musilum will see budha as allah, and other will see budha as who ever they worship. budha is universal pure compasion sympathy and narvina.

9:43 this is Nate Thyer. He made an interview with Pol Pot over 2 hours, but he does not publish it because anybody would be touched by this lovely, calm, responsible man. Once he had an 20 min. extract of this 2h interview in Youtube. I believed Pol Pot exactly any word, because he exactly did describe what they did and what they were not able to do. And he did say, that they were not able to supervise lower ranks countrywide and that they had problems with many very young officers, who did not do what they were told. Some in fact obviously did provide killings that fit to the accusations. He did describe how it was in the interview and refered to a kind of book  where he did write down in detail, what was right and wrong during democratic Kamputchea and was unhappy about many things.

Remember, the people need education first. If the people there are not education the people will not see the leader what he do. the later on the people see what the leader did, that too later. I lived in the Communist party 11 year.

I am 100% Cambodian.  I strongly believe that there should have been more killing, not just 2 million    but 5 million deaths. Cambodia ought to be divided into two equally pieces. One half would belongs to Thailand and the other to Vietnam.  I am so sicked seeing Cambodian monarch leaders and civilian head of State especially this half century treated their own people and country. Every single  Cambodian leader allowed their emotions to be ruled over against their national patriotism therefore they could easily be bought by foreign leaders causing the destruction of Khmer Nation.

It was Vietnamese who killed over 3 millions Khmer in Cambodia, it's not Pol Pot. Do more research and learn more about history of Khmer and Yuon ( Vietnamese ). There is no trial for Khmer rouge leader, it's only court that was well planned by Vietnamese. The killing of over 3 millions Khmer is not national crime, it's international crime and Khmer rouge leader must be trialed by international court which is in Holland.
