I don’t recall any “righteous” Germans being punished. In fact, many former Nazis, even those involved in war crimes, were generally let go. Only the very top of the Nazi heirarchy faced Allied justice. Many of the concentration camp guards and lower level Nazis who were prosecuted later were actually prosecuted by the Germans. As for the Japanese, a number of their top officials and generals were also executed or imprisoned for their crimes against humanity. Have you ever heard about the Tokyo Trials?
Well, they were the equivalent to the Nürnberg trials, but much, much more extensive, as covered all sorts of war crimes, especially against Allied PoWs, which were very common.
No “due obedience” was allowed and every personnel in the PoWs camps was trialled, no matter the rank.

While the major powers didn't seek reparations, Japan upon becoming a democratic nation in 1952 signed numerous treaties of reparations with numerous nations in San Francisco. Japan was allowed to pay the multi-billion reparations bill over 20 to 25 years.
Japan was billed for mistreatment of prisoners of war for the US and other allies. That was understood to be a token payment for the POWs.
