Why So Many Married Couples in Japan Don’t Sleep Together

If you’re new to Japan, this might surprise you: A lot of married couples here don’t share the same bed.
Some even sleep in completely different rooms.
But it’s not because they hate each other. It’s usually because of… lifestyle, culture, and pure survival.
Here’s what many Japanese couples tell you:
Some people say it’s sad.
But many Japanese couples say it actually helps their marriage:
Less fighting, better sleep, more peace.
And here’s the funny part —
Even couples who sleep in separate rooms will tell you they’re perfectly fine…

My Japanese wife and I decided to have separate rooms after we bought our second house. We are perfectly happy and enjoy our own spaces. Our daughter also has her own space that is hers to take care of. My room is basically my man cave which works out great for me. The challenge in this style of living is maintaining the intimacy within the marriage. That being said, we tend to use my room more often than hers.

Its also a cheating gateway… which is one of the reasons why cheating is sky high in Japan.

Not Japanese, do not live in Japan, have slept in separate room from my husband for over a year - much happier, and better rested.

I heard that Japanese couples don't have sex with each other, but they do it with someone who isn't their spouse or partner. Cos they like to appear pure to their partner, so kinky stuff is only reserved for side pieces. Some men expect their partner to act ladylike in the bedroom. For example, if she acts like she's enjoying it too much, that's not pure enough. That's why some women pretend like they're not enjoying it, or act like they are in pain, while doing it.
I'm sure there are exceptions to the rules.

I do agree somewhat to this having lived it myself thru my first marriage to a Japanese woman
……..2nd time around, ( again with a Japanese woman ), where we have decided not to have children & it’s very nice to snuggle with someone & watch tv together in bed & discuss things that concern, motivate & even plan trips, & these things we enjoy as a mixed couple marriage

Not only in Japan. I remember my grandparents sleeping in different rooms in Australia. My wife and I now sleep in separate rooms too, mainly because she’s with the kids and I’m a really light sleeper.

Samuel Perez wtf does this have to do with this conversation? The population is shrinking becoz people can’t afford to have multiple kids & this is why the muslims out populate us because they move to foreign countries, get handouts, rental assistance, health insurance, travel cards all handed out to them, while the usual people of that country are supporting them through the taxes they pay.
It’s time other cultures that deliberately move to other countries, either contribute or go home
