About our speakers;
Dr. Kathy Winings is the Vice President of the Board of Directors for the International Relief Friendship Foundation, Inc., an international disaster and sustainable development agency.
She has served in numerous administrative positions in higher education such as Vice President for Academic Affairs, Director of the Doctor of Ministry Program, and founding Dean of the NYC and MD campuses for a graduate seminary. Dr. Winings is also Professor Emeritus in Religious Education.
She is President and Founder of Educare, an educational consulting agency with expertise in curriculum design and programming, educational leadership, neuroscience and service learning. Dr. Winings is the author of numerous published articles on neuroscience, service learning, social justice, brain-based teaching and diversity, equity and inclusion. She is the editor of the book American Christian Traditions and the author of Building Character through Service Learning. In 2022, she was the guest editor of an issue for the international journal Religions. She is currently writing a book on her recent near-death experience.
Dr. Winings received her Undergraduate degree in Media Studies and her professional diploma in Elementary Education from Fordham University, her Master of Divinity from the Unification Theological Seminary, and her EdD from Teachers College, Columbia University.
In December 2020, Dr. Winings experienced a life-changing Near Death Experience after suffering a ruptured cerebral aneurysm. Since that time, she has been taught and guided by God in living a life reflecting the unconditional love of God and being transformed on a daily basis by that same love. As a result of her NDE, Dr. Winings has been speaking to diverse audiences about what her experience has taught her about working toward true peace in our communities, nations and global community.

Dr. Dinshaw Dadachanji serves as Research Director for the Hyo Jeong International Foundation for Environmental Peace (HJIFEP), formerly known as the Hyo Jeong International Foundation for the Unity of the Sciences (HJIFUS), a position he has held since 2017. The mission of HJIFEP is to protect and rejuvenate the natural environment for the benefit of humanity and our planet as a whole.
Dr. Dadachanji earned a Master of Science in Chemistry from the Indian Institute of Technology in Mumbai (Bombay), and a doctorate in molecular biology from Yale University, New Haven. After teaching college-level chemistry for a few years, he became a science editor and spent over 20 years editing magazine articles and educational materials covering a wide range of topics in science, technology, and medicine.
At HJIFEP, his responsibilities have included the organization of two series of conferences: the International Conference on the Unity of the Sciences (ICUS) and the International Conference on Science and God (ICSG). These meetings have involved experts who have presented promising solutions to critical environmental challenges, through technologies based on conventional science and frontier science.
He is inspired by scientists whose courageous investigations have been leading science into the postmaterialist era, thereby encouraging our understanding of the universe through both science and spirituality, and opening the door to elevating the quality of human life.

The Importance of Shifting Your Identity

Hello High Nooners! 

I wanted to chat with you about something that's close to my heart - the daunting, yet transformative journey of changing our identities in life. Sometimes we find ourselves entangled in behaviors or substances that become more than just habits; they become part of who we think we are.

Let me share a story with you. I’m sure you’ve all met someone who identifies as a smoker. It is more than just an activity or behavior, for the person smoking, it because part of the story they tell about themselves. The type of cigarettes they smoke, the lighter they use, the ceremonial aspect of when they imbibe in their addiction, it’s all a part of their overall sense of self (identity). 

I've also met folks who struggled with drinking. It wasn't just about the alcohol; it was the routine, the camaraderie with friends, and the sense of belonging. They feared that without their favorite drink, they wouldn't be the same person, and life would lose its luster. That’s why alcoholics are typically asked to form a new circle of friends who don’t drink, in order to forge a new identity. 

It's not just with substances; we see this pattern with other addictions too, like pornography. The routine, the cravings, the sense of familiarity - it all intertwines with our sense of self. We begin to identify as "addicted," believing it's who we're destined to be. 

Changing our identity is no easy feat. It's like saying goodbye to an old friend, a friend that you once relied on, even if they weren't good for you. It's scary to think about who we'd be without our addiction, what our life would look like, and whether we could even function.

But here's the thing: you are not your addiction. Your identity is not confined to one aspect of your life. You are a complex, beautiful soul with unlimited potential for growth and transformation.

Here are some practical ways in which you can start swapping your old identity for one that serves you better:

Celebrate every step forward, no matter how small. What you focus on envelops your attention, so why not focus on the progress you’re making in order to create a positive feedback loop. 

Surround yourself with a support network that cheers you on. Talk to friends, family, or seek help from a trusted elder if need be. You don't have to do this alone. Having someone to lean on can make a world of difference.

And most importantly, be kind to yourself. Changing your identity is a courageous endeavor, and it's okay to stumble along the way. Treat yourself with the same compassion you would offer a friend going through a similar journey.

As you contemplate the possibility of change, know that it is within your reach. Believe in your capacity to evolve, embrace a new identity, and discover a life that aligns with your true values and aspirations.

It's okay to feel scared and uncertain, but let that be the fuel that propels you forward. You are stronger than you realize, and you have the power to create a future that shines brightly with newfound hope and possibility.

The road ahead may be winding, but remember, you have the strength, the resilience, and the potential to transform your life. Embrace the journey, cherish the growth, and welcome the beautiful evolution of your identity.
