Jan. 25 (UPI) -- Pyongyang issued a call for unification with South Korea on Thursday as North Korean athletes headed south to practice with a joint Olympic ice hockey team.

Pyongyang issued the statement through the state-run Korean Central News Agency amid an annual conference of governmental officials, political parties and organizations. The statement said Koreans should pursue unification without the interference of foreign countries, specifically the United States.

"Let all Koreans rise up in the peace-keeping struggle against war to baffle the reckless nuclear war moves of the U.S. which brings disaster to this land, setting dangerous flames," it said.

The conference, which is normally held after North Korean leader Kim Jong Un's New Year's speech, frequently pushes national reunification, Newsweek reported.

"Let us smash the moves of the separatist forces at home and abroad and dynamically usher in a fresh phase of national reunification, holding aloft the banner of national independence and by our nation itself," the statement continued.

The call for unity came as twelve North Korean hockey players traveled to South Korea on Thursday to take part in the first practice of the joint women's hockey team.

Earlier this month, North and South Korea agreed to march together under a unified flag during the opening ceremony for the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics next month. They also agreed to create a single women's hockey team to compete during the games.

North Korea plans to send 22 athletes to compete in three sports and five disciplines at the Games, including figure skating, short track speed skating, cross-country skiing and alpine skiing.

And we are supposed to believe at face value North Korea's message of peace?
If they unify will the litte fat rocket boy retire and allow free elections?

Until that question is answered the communist noko government can shove all of this up its collective a[nus]

Fatso has something up his sleeve ! He is trying to start trouble, not peace ! I am dissapointed in SK. They are letting Fatso lead them by the nose. Can't they see what he is up to ?? At this point, and what we are seeing, can we trust them as our allies ? After the games are they going to throw us under the bus, so they can unify ? Do they think without us protecting them life would be better ? Maybe we can stop buying their tin can Hyandui cars for a year and see their reaction what it would be like if we slowed down trade with them and not support them. Looks like SK is being two-faced. Hope they get a kick in the a---- from NK, that will wake them up.

Suely if NK really wanted unification then their first step would be to sign the peace treaty with the South.

Are the South Koreans as stupid, ignorant and walking zombies like so many Americans were when they voted for Lumpy, Crazy, Stupid, Self-enriching (money wise), stealing taxpayers dollars from the middle and poverty stricken Americans President. They will be the first one in this day and age to fall victim to another communist regime. Did they mention that the South Korean people will be subsurvient to Fat Boy Kim. All industries will become properity of Kim and all monies will belong to him. Imagine, all of the pizzas and hamburgers he can order.

Wishful Thinking?
Pyongyang calls for all Koreans to support independent unification. Unfortunately, as long as a foreign superpower remains hostile to North Korea and refuses to hand over wartime control to South Korea it may well remain a pious hope...

The South Korean government does not war with North Korea. They say the military option is "unacceptable". So, I think the US military presence in South Korea should end. Let the North and South work out their own problems.
