Volodymyr Zelensky is the current President of Ukraine. He was elected in a landslide victory in 2019 on the promise of easing tensions with Russia and resolving the crisis in the breakaway republics in east Ukraine. He has made no attempt to keep his word on either issue. Instead, he has greatly exacerbated Ukraine’s internal crisis while relentlessly provoking Russia. Zelensky has had numerous opportunities to smooth things over with Moscow and prevent the outbreak of hostilities. Instead, he has consistently made matters worse by blindly following Washington’s directives.
Zelensky has been lionized in the west and praised for his personal bravery. But—as a practical matter—he has failed to restore national unity or implement the crucial peace accord that is the only path to reconciliation. The Ukrainian president doesn’t like the so-called Minsk Protocol and has refused to meet its basic requirements. As a result, the ethnically-charged, fratricidal war that has engulfed Ukraine for the last 8 years, continues to this day with no end in sight. President Vladimir Putin referred to Zelensky’s obstinance in a recent speech delivered at the Kremlin. He said:
“At yesterday’s event… the Ukrainian leadership publicly declared that they were not going to abide by these agreements. Not going to abide by them. Well, what else can you say about that?” (Vladimir Putin)
Most Americans fail to realize that Zelensky’s rejection of Minsk was the straw that broke the camel’s back. Russian officials had worked for 8 years on Minsk hammering out terms that would be agreeable to all parties. Then—at the eleventh hour—Zelensky put the kibosh on the deal with a wave of the hand. Why? Who told Zelensky to scrap the agreement? Washington?
Of course.
And why did Zelensky deploy 60,000 combat troops to the area just beyond the Line of Contact (in east Ukraine) where they could lob mortal shells into the towns and villages of the ethnic Russians who lived there? Clearly, the message this sent to the people was that an invasion was imminent and that they should either flee their homes immediately or take shelter in their cellars. What objective did Zelensky hope to achieve by forcing these people to huddle in their homes in fear for their lives? And what message did he intend to send to Moscow whose leaders looked on at these developments in absolute horror?
Did he know his actions would set off alarms in Russia forcing Putin to call up his military and prepare them for a possible invasion to protect his people from– what looked to be– a massive ethnic cleansing operation?
He did.
So, how are these actions consistent with Zelensky’s campaign promises to restore national unity and peacefully resolve Ukraine’s issues with Russia?
They’re not consistent at all, they are polar opposites. In fact, Zelenskyy appears to be operating off a different script altogether. Take, for example, his complete unwillingness to address Russia’s minimal security concerns. Did Zelensky know that Putin had repeatedly said that Ukraine’s membership in NATO was a “red line” for Russia? Did he know that Putin has been saying the same thing over-and-over again since 2014? Did he know that Putin warned that if Ukraine took steps to join NATO, Russia would be forced to take “military-technical” measures to ensure their own security? Does Zelensky know that NATO is Washington-controlled Alliance that has engaged in numerous acts of aggression against other sovereign states. Here’s a short list of NATO’s accomplishments:
- The destruction of Yugoslavia
- The destruction of Afghanistan
- The destruction of Libya
- The destruction of Iraq
- The destruction of Syria
Does Zelensky know that NATO is openly hostile to Russia and regards Russia a serious threat to its expansionist ambitions?
Yes, he knows all these things. Still, he publicly expressed his interest in developing nuclear weapons. What is that all about? Imagine the problem that would pose for Russia. Imagine if a US-backed puppet, like Zelensky, had nuclear missiles at his fingertips. How do you think that might impact Russia’s security? Do you think Putin could ignore a development like that and still fulfill his duty to protect the Russian people?
And why did Zelenskyy agree to allow shipment after shipment of lethal weaponry to be delivered to Ukraine if he sincerely sought peace with Russia? Did he think that Putin was too stupid to see what was going on right beneath his nose? Did he think he was normalizing relations by expanding his arsenal, threatening his own people, and jumping through whatever hoops Washington set out for him?
Or did he think that Putin’s requests for security assurances were unreasonable? Is that it? Did he think– that if the shoe was on the other foot– the US would allow Mexico to put military bases, artillery pieces and missile sites along America’s southern border? Is there any president in American history who wouldn’t have done the same thing that Putin did? Is there any president in American history who wouldn’t have launched a preemptive strike on those Mexican weapons and vaporized every living thing for a 20-mile radius?
No, Putin’s demands were entirely reasonable, but Zelenskyy shrugged them off anyway. Why?
Does Zelenskyy know that there are Right Sektor, neo-Nazis in the government, military and Security Services. Does he know that, while their numbers are small, they are a force to be reckoned with and factor heavily in the hatred and persecution of ethnic Russians? Does he know that these far-right elements participate in torchlight parades, imprint swastikas or SS tattoos on their arms, and revere the racialist ideology of Adolph Hitler? Does he realize that many these Nazis have engaged in criminal acts of brutality including the incinerating of 40 civilians at the Trade Union Building in Odessa in 2014? Does he think that the CIA’s covert programs to arm and train these right-wing militants builds confidence or does he think it reminds Moscow of a catastrophic war in which 27 million Russians were exterminated by Germany’s Wehrmacht?
Can you see how everything Zelensky has done, was done with the intention of provoking Russia?
All the talk of joining NATO, all the talk about building nukes, the steady buildup of lethal weaponry, the movement of troops to the east, the refusal to implement the Minsk Treaty and the rejection of Putin’s security demands. All of these were deliberate provocations. But, why? Why “bait the bear”; that’s the question?
Because Washington wants to lure Russia into a war so it can further demonize Putin, isolate Russia, launch a counterinsurgency operation against the Russian army, and impose harsh economic sanctions that will inflict maximum damage on the Russian economy. That’s Washington’s strategy in a nutshell, and Zelenskyy is helping Washington achieve its objectives. He’s allowing himself to be Washington’s tool. He is sacrificing his own country to advance the interests of the United States.
All this helps to underscore a point that is never considered by the media and never discussed by the pundits on cable news, that is, that Ukraine is going to lose the war, and Zelenskyy knows it. He knows the Ukrainian Armed Forces are no match for the Russian army. It is like a Giant swatting a fly. Ukraine is the fly. The public needs to hear this, but they’re not hearing it. Instead, they’re hearing blabber about heroic Ukrainians fighting the Russian invader. But this is nonsense, dangerous nonsense that is emboldening people to sacrifice their lives for a lost cause. The outcome of this conflict has never been in doubt: Ukraine is going to lose. That is certain. And, if you read between the lines, you’ll see that Russia is winning the war quite handily; they are crushing the Ukrainian army at every turn, and they will continue to crush them until Ukraine surrenders. What can we deduce from this short interview:
- Russia will prevail and Ukraine will lose.
- Ukraine is going to be partitioned. Putin is going to create the buffer he needs to assure his country’s security.
- Whoever governs the western part of Ukraine will be required to declare their “neutrality” (in writing) and reject any offers for NATO membership. If they violate that promise, they will be removed by force.
But here’s the important thing: All of the main actors in this fiasco knew from the very beginning that Ukraine had no chance of defeating the Russian army. That was a foregone conclusion. So–what we want to know– is why Zelenskyy didn’t take steps to avoid the tragedy before it unfolded?
The answer to this question helps to reveal ‘who Zelenskyy really is’.
Ask yourself this: Why didn’t Zelenskyy negotiate with Putin when he had the chance? Why didn’t he pull back his 60,000 troops from the east? Why didn’t he stop Washington’s weapons shipments? Why didn’t he implement the Minsk Treaty? Why didn’t he reject NATO’s offer for membership?
Finally, why was so intent on doing the things that he knew would anger Moscow and increase the likelihood of a war?
These questions are not hard to answer.
Zelenskyy has been acting on orders from Washington from the get-go. We know that. He’s also been implementing Washington’s agenda not his own and certainly not Ukraine’s. We know that, too. But that does not absolve him from responsibility. After all, he is a full-grown adult capable of distinguishing between right from wrong. He knows what he’s doing, and he knows that it’s wrong; worse than wrong, it’s inexcusable. He’s sending men to die in a war he knows they can’t win; he’s inflicting incalculable suffering and injury on his own people for no reason at all; and –worst of all– he’s cleared the way for the dissolution of Ukraine itself, the country he was sworn to defend. That country is going to be broken into bits as part of a final settlement with Russia, and Zelenskyy will share a good part of the blame.

The hypothetical analogy is entirely misguided because it invokes an inappropriate fantasy scenario to now try to justify the big war that Russia initiated. Staying in the conjectural realm, what if the US had before then maintained bases, artillery, and missiles aimed at Mexico City and Cancun from western Guatemala, perhaps also from illegally occupied territory in Puebla, and occasionally entertained rhetoric related to taking Mexican territory?
This is a red herring. Ukraine does not meet the basic requirements for NATO membership, which, even if it did, would have to be approved by all existing members. Most members would not support this because Ukraine is a huge liability, a corrupted economic basket case, with large territory that would drain military resources to defend. NATO has not made an “offer” of membership to Ukraine. Days before Putin began the war it was publicly made clear that NATO membership of Ukraine was not going to be on the agenda for at least ten years. However, forfeiting this theoretical right in perpetuity (the “red line“) would be in violation of the 1997 Paris treaty between NATO and Russia.
The rational conclusion one can easily derive from this article is that Putin must be an idiot to have allowed himself to be teased by Zelensky and then commanded his troops to initiate the destruction of the second larges city in Ukraine, which had essentially been pro-Russian, among other regions under attack, instead of engaging in a limited operation to consolidate the Donbas region – that is, unless he desperately wanted to be teased all along, as a pretext to pursue greater military ambitions.

But it appears on June 12, 2020 Ukraine joined NATO’s “enhanced opportunity partner interoperability program”. Before anyone can ask just exactly what that word salad means, NATO explains that this status does not “prejudge any decisions on NATO membership”.

More like the bottom line is Putin is responsible for ‘avoiding’ the start of world war 3 by not allowing NATO missiles on Russia’s border,which would be far more dangerous for everyone.
I was wondering if this Zelensky would follow through with his strident rhetoric and go down with his ship, dying in his bunker, or if he’d pull some vanishing act and pop up elsewhere. He’s done his job well, pushing all those Ukrainian dupes into the line of fire and getting lots of people killed. He supposedly got elected but the Americans have been there monkeying around with that as advisors and paymasters for propaganda so they had some American style tinkering to get the results they want. At this point, the only question regarding whether Putin was goaded into moving into Ukraine is which of the top five we are now aware of that the USG knew good and well would lead to just that is the one that did the trick.

I filled up my tank yesterday (it was just under a quarter way down) and paid $3.80 per gallon; $18 for a little under 5 gallons of gas. I have a policy of never letting my gas tank needle drop below the 3/4’s full mark. I decided to start doing that because I live in an area that is subject to occasional tropical storms and threats from hurricanes and sometimes we lose power. I also don’t want to have to shell out $80 to $100 to fill up my tank.
Having said that, I see that Russia has announced that there will be no more shipments of gas to the United States. That is going to cause gas prices to increase by never before seen levels and that is going to drive food prices up even more than they have gone up already.
San Diego now has $5 per gallon gas prices. I don’t live in California so I do not know how much of that $5 price includes state taxes tacked on, but since California is a state run by mentally insane, greedy tax hungry liberals – I bet its a good percentage.

This is something that I have touched on from a different perspective. I live in an area with a large “Ukrainian” and Mennonite populations. The Mennonites came mostly from what is now, Ukraine. Both groups had come in previously, but many fled communism. Neither of these groups see Communism being Jewish, rather see it as being “Russian”, even the Ukrainian communists, who were predominantly Jews.
It is ironic that both these groups are close knit and are somewhat socialistic as an “in group”.

All the US did was to treat Ukraine like a sovereign country, as we promised to do in the Budapest Memorandum (wherein Ukraine agreed to give up any nuclear materials in exchange for respecting Ukraine’s boundaries), and even after Putin violated that agreement. Had we walked away from whatever obligation was in that US signature, THAT would have been the dashed expectation and the broken promise that Mearshimer could point to as the source of America’s shame regarding Ukraine. But he doesn’t have that, and so he’s reduced to a game of misdirection.
Before he invaded Ukraine, Putin had the Ukrainian buffer state he said he wanted, composed of people whose net preference for NATO was roughly zip, demographically speaking. Percentage support for joining NATO was generally below 25, and about half of the “say no to NATO” number. Unlike Putin, NATO doesn’t roll in tanks to try and shift the polling odds in favor of joining up with them. That was the begining of it; Ukraine got $2.5 billion in arms, many key ones (hand held anti tank rockets, anti aircraft missiles and artillery radar) were very superior to anything Russia has. In 2018 Poroshenko said that because national security depended on “spiritual independence”, the Ukrainian Orthodox Church would no longer be part of the Russian Orthodox Church. The Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople recognised the independence of the Ukrainian Church from Moscow, which led to the Moscow Patriarchate breaking with the hitherto world spiritual authorly of Orthodoxy that Constantinople has represented since the schism with Rome and Catholicism. The Moscow Patriarchate has promoted the mystical thought of Ivan Ilyin, who Putin sometimes quotes. The current Kremlin’s favourite philospher is Nikolai Berdyaev, who was anti Byzantine.

Did the US, UK and NATO allies not know that Russia would not accept Ukraine joining NATO – why not? Putin has been telling them for 10 years or more – and so have political scholars and senior military officials.
Or did they not understand what Putin was saying to them? even with 100,000+ troops on the Ukrainian border. And with Putin saying even early this year – ‘Ukraine not in NATO’. Perhaps it was Zelensky mentioning having nuclear weapons that triggered the invasion? The outcome as it is now unfolding is that Russia will be alienated from Europe and will likely now trade much more with China – and align more so with them. The global superpowers will be US v China and Russia whereas, with a little forethought Russia could/should have been better controlled – as the more entwined with European countries, the more Russia would have become dependent on them.

I’ve been revising my personal Ukraine “narrative”. I still think it’s a recent avatar of a long-standing ethnic conflict between Russians and Poles/Westerners, but I now think that the violence might be fomented and used by the real power behind the throne, Kolomoisky, who also seeems to be willing to help the west along as long as he’s given a somewhat free hand.
Something to try on for size: Kolomoisky is a Ukro-Jewish mafioso, who hires out Azov fascists as muscle to enforce his power. This changes the picture from ethnic violence motivated mostly by political fanaticism, to thuggery motivated by enforcement of K’s power. In other words, the Azov battalion is a wholly owned subsidiary of Igor, whose appearance has as much to do with their embrace of violence as it does with their political inclinations. A Jew hiring fascist mercenaries might appear incongruous, but business is business.
This raises the interesting question of whether western Ukrainians will see Putin mostly as an ethnic Russian oppressor, or as someone who can deliver them from out-of-control gangsterism. With this added to the mix, Putin’s intentions become very unclear, as he might be trying to break Ukrainian oligarchs’ attachment to the west, to have some semblance of responsbility to the welfare of their own people, similar to what he himself did when he came to power in Russia and arrested the social freefall of the nineties.
