 월성 이종만 선생의 서거 45주기 추도 포럼을 아래와 같이 개최하려고 합니다.

Hi Okkyung, 

Sorry I annoyed you. I will honor your wish and not bring up this topic with you again. 

I simply wanted to go through the formal procedure of touching the base with my siblings before I starting the project.

Let me just clarify one point here.

You said you do not feel comfortable to pay somebody to write about our grandfather. The fact is not that at all on my end. 

If you were here, we could have visited and hear 한홍구 박사 tell us his thoughts about LJM and recommending us to do a LJM forum.

In passing... at the time when I was initiating the making of mother’s book, there were no siblings support, moral or financial. 

But I paid and I did it, and it proved out to be widely beneficial all around. The impact of that book is still reverberating and I may get that book reprinted down the road.  

I believe that encouraging the Korean scholars who see the importance of LJM’s thoughts and life’s work to write a thesis will prove out to be very valuable.

We discussed this ropic a while ago. I expressed my view then that i do not feel comfortable to pay somebody to write about our grandfather. 

I have a great respect for our grandfather and what he has done. So if you want to write something for him or sejin does it, that will be great. I am not familiar with data about him, so i am not in a position to do so.

Please don't bring up this topic again with me.

Our grandfather Lee Jong-man died on January 17, 1977, at age 93(Korean age).

After communicating with 한홍구 박사 via kakao talk for a couple of months and then meeting him twice, I understood that this is a good thing to do.

He came up with this idea of our siblings hosting a forum for our grandfather, modeled after what his siblings are doing for their grandfather who is a 독립투사.

It seems like the time is ripe to plan for the 45th anniversary of Lee Jong Man's death memorial in 2022, to be followed by a symposium for his 50th anniversary in 2027. (Symposium will be larger in scale, with 3~4 presenters.)

I talked with 조성환 박사 (원불교사상연구원) and 강종일 박사(한반도중립화통일협의회), both of whom are willing to present a paper in the 2022 forum.

As for the cost, apparently there is no set cost for an event like this. It’s all up to the individuals who host

- We may think of giving around 30만원 for each of the two presenters.

- If the Corona situation permits next January, we will have to rent a place for the forum. If not, it’ll be done by Zoom.

- There will be dinner for all participants.

Please let me know if you are interested in co-hosting the 2022 forum.

It will be meaningful to host it together regardless of the consideration for the  financial contribution.
