Economic History of Korea: An Overview Paperback – November 15, 2024
by Jae Ho Kim (Author)
This book takes a look at Korean history as a whole by focusing on the economic structures and their changes in each period starting from the Paleolithic Era, when humans started living on the Korean peninsula, the emergence of states such as Gojoseon, the Three Kingdoms Period, the opening of the ports, up to the present in order to understand the large flow of history. Unlike interpretations of Korean history that focus on political history, this book takes as its keyword the economy, which is what decides the lives and activities of humans living day to day, to present Korean history in a single volume for readers. Economic History of An Overview examines 38 key topics in chronological order from the ancient period to the present in order to provide a broad overview of Korean economic history.
Unlike textbook-like monographs that simply summarize prevalent or conventional knowledge, this book is based on the latest achievements in the research of Korean economic history along with the critical views and arguments of the author, thus promising its readers both expertise and depth in the subject matter. Economic History of An Overview, which takes Korean history as its overarching theme, is marked by the attempt to break free from the perspective of Koreans and the nationalistic point of view and instead present a new research paradigm of Korean history. Chronologically covering key topics and themes, the book presents new achievements and issues of research in Korean economic history.
