About the Author
Xi Van Fleet describes herself as “Chinese by birth; American by choice, survivor of Mao’s Cultural Revolution, defender of liberty.” She was born in China, lived through the Cultural Revolution, and was sent to work in the countryside at the age of 16. After Mao’s death she was able to go to college to study English and has lived in the United States since 1986. In 2021, she delivered a school board speech in Loudoun County, Virginia against Critical Race Theory that went viral and ignited national conservative media attention. She now devotes her time and energy full time to warning about the parallels between Mao’s Cultural Revolution in China and what’s unfolding in America today. Excellent book. Today schools don't teach the real history of Communism and Socialism so, young people hear the "everyone is treated the same" lie and think it's better than Capitalism. This is an excellent book to give to a child in middle school or high school. Hear from someone that lived the lie.
A longer and more in depth read would be Mao the Untold Story. Again, written by a person that lived the lie of Communism. It's a more historical view and uses the diaries of many citizens that lived through Mao's and Communism's lies. There are over 150 pages of references in this book to substantiate to claims of the author. 70 million Chinese people and tens-of-millions of others died and still die because of this diabolical ideology.

After watching an interview with Xi Van Fleet last year, I was intrigued by her story and message. This book was exceptional and I highly recommend it. I appreciated how she thoroughly explained the key similarities between the cultural revolution in China and the pervasive woke agenda going on here in America. It’s a striking comparison that forces you to think about what is really happening in our country. Van Fleet is courageous in her heartfelt delivery; you can tell she loves the US and is a true patriot. It is indeed a warning that we all need to hear.

I knew that Xi was writing this book. But, I had no idea how well written and powerful her story would be. I received my copy from yesterday, and--although not yet finished--I've spent enough time poring over it to craft a response:
Many have (correctly) connected the dots of current events and to sound the alarm. Xi Van Fleet, however, is uniquely situated with the direct life experience to tie it all together in a way that few others can. While she may not have considered it a blessing at the time, the fact that she comes to us to report the danger now is a rich blessing to all Americans who stand to lose everything if this evil totalitarian danger is not checked.
Please, read this book. You will be sobered as you walk through Xi's detailed first-hand experience of the beginnings of the Chinese Cultural Revolution. She was seven. And, reading her account, the craziness of what you have experienced beginning in 2020 in the United States will begin to make total sense. You will understand why, and to what end, all this is happening.
We are in an extremely perilous moment as a nation. That much is absolutely clear. The Communist overthrow of our self-government, the American Cultural Revolution (as Xi correctly identifies it), is now in its third year. Your individualism, morality, freedoms, commitment to the empiricism, work ethic, and family structure are in their crosshairs for destruction. Tyrants are poised to subject you and take everything. I really admire the author for her courage to stand out and tell people what is really going on in the US today. As an immigrant myself, I know her book would make a lot of progressive people and dictators unhappy, including both in the US and China. But all is just the truth and facts that politicians have been trying to cover. When you are just like the old me hating some political topics like abortion, have you ever thought of why these 2 parties fighting for such personal issue so intensely? This book gives you and me the answer. Because it's related to what kind of society you would like to live in - a sexual promiscuity society or a decent relationship treasured society. I think Republican also didn't do a good job in explaining this clearly to the public. And Democrats surely have some agenda behind what they are advocating.
This book opens my eyes about the issues happened in China and going on in the US. Based on her enlightenment, I did some further research online and found out many many more cruel and inhumane incidents happened in China that she couldn't all cover in her book. If you would like to dig it yourself, you will surely be shocked to the core. And if US couldn't stop or revert what the progressives have done and never stop trying to do, the same tragedy would surely happen on this land again.

I bought the book after hearing the author interviewed about growing up in China during the Cultural Revolution, and the parallels she saw in America’s cultural shift in the past decade or so. She is close to my age (65) so her timeline of political events mirrored my own memories of news stories growing up. But she was living them on the other side of the world. On about page 50, she mentioned being a translator for English teachers in Chengdu in 1985. My husband was in Chengdu that year as an English teacher! We quickly figured out that she was his translator and were able to reach out to her and reconnect after thirty eight years! She has been interviewed on Tucker Carlson and other news outlets, sharing her perspective on the way China changed in the years she was there and how the Party used young people to accomplish their takeover. Before this book, I knew very little about the Cultural Revolution and therefore had no idea of the similarities to our current events. It is winsome and well written. Appropriate for high school age.

I wish every American would read this book. The author lays out how Democrats match their policies perfectly with the policies that Mao forced on the Chinese people. Van Fleet’s warning about what is happening to America, will encourage every American who loves our country to get involved. We cannot assume that what happened in China, Russia, Cuba, Venezuela and other communist countries cannot happen here. Read Mao’s America and help spread Xi’s warning.

Help our American folks to understand what agenda is played by the leftists in our society, predict what will happen if this plan keeps running. Beyond that, she describes the root of all the problems originated in high education and how the Marxist ideology infiltrates and control the whole education started even in the 1930s. We are in serious trouble already, because they use the Marxist ideology brainwashed so many people already particularly the young generation. More than that, the majority of the teachers in K-12 are from the very leftist leaning college of education, and their brains are fully wired with Marxist ideology, and they further brainwash our kids in school. How we are gonna solve the problems? At least we have to let people see the truth, identify the problems, then we can come to the plan to fix the problems.

I heard about this book on Glenn Beck’s show about a month ago. I ordered it right away. If what is happening in our country makes you angry you have to read this book. Mrs. Van Fleet was a child in China when Mao started his Cultural Revolution. She grew up being brainwashed by revolutionary leaders. She didn’t know better. The people who are responsible for our children in public schools do know better. They even say they are Maoists! Our children are being taught to hate this country; the people we have entrusted our babies to teach them to not share what they learn in school with their parents. Some of what she relates will chill you to the bone because we are experiencing it today. She stood in front of the School Board in her home town in Virginia last year and said what parents need to hear. Our kids are being propagandized to Communism in schools that our taxes pay for!
It’ll give you things to think about and how to take action in your town when your children do talk about things happening in school.

Mao, like Lenin and Stalin, subscribed to Marx's recipe for communism.
Destroy the fabric of the culture. This is done by destroying the nuclear family, religion, and rewriting its history. Take over the education system in order to indoctrinate the children. Establish the "Oppressed Class" and the "Oppressor Class". Turn the children against parents and into loyal soldiers of the state - The Red Guard for Mao. The Oppressor Class is always the group that the would-be-dictator sees has his biggest obstacle to total power.
Once the useful idiots have helped destroy the culture and implement totalitarian government, they are discarded like garbage. It is ALWAYS about personal power.
It is an easy read and well worth the time.

I was born in communist Cuba and lived under the Castro's dictatorship the first 17 years of my life until I immigrated to the USA 53 years ago. I experienced in my own life the countryside, the indoctrination, the lack of freedom and human. rights and the misery of living in a communist country. The take over began much longer ago than has been realized by those of us who have grown up here. Having been to a former communist country in 1994, I saw that the people still had the same thoughts that they had lived under for 80 years. I began seeing shadows of the same ideas here in the USA. Prayer had been taken out of schools, the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag was no longer said during my public school life. I actually had the honor to hear and speak with Xi Van Fleet at my school this past semester. She is a warrior who escaped communist China to live a free life here in America. Because of her past, Mrs. Fleet knows what led to the Cultural Revolution in China. Shockingly, she started to see the same things that she saw there happening here in America. Though not exhaustive, here are a few: Increased violence in our schools, burning of statutes, and the destruction of family unity.
This is a must read in light of what is happening in America today. She warns that America is closer to Communism than we think. And once a country falls to Communism, it stays. Must Read.

I really could not put this book down. Xi’s personal story is well written, compelling and eye opening I will never look at current events in the same way. Xi is a very brave and intelligent woman. I truly thank her for writing this book.
